Eccentricity

Ross Lovegrove. Designer. Cardiff, Wales, 1958

I first met Oscar in Helsinki. We were speaking at a conference entitled “New Simplicity! Why on earth we were invited I will never know because with Oscar there it should have been called “New Eccentricity”! / At one time during my presentation he jumped up on stage to take over, talking with great passion and gusto about an organic piece of mine that could have easily been a product of his own mind. I was deeply flattered by this gesture since it reflected his great enthusiasm to be free and to express a passion for all things creative including my humble piece for Driade. / The conference ended with his announcement that I was the good guy and he was the villain – a statement I have been trying hard ever since to prove wrong! / He still owes me a Gaulino chair in oak with a tan leather seat, signed, dated with an accompanying sketch of it dedicated to my son Roman, because it’s important in life to share all things discovered and loved... especially with the future’s villainous good guys!
