Girandola, 1993

Producer: Driade

(Out of production)

Coffee table featuring a mechanism of swivel trays. The idea was to create a low drawing-room table which was neither too small nor too ostensibly large, and which could be adapted to a number of varied uses. The table is fitted with four trays beneath the glass top, and these open out like petals, which unfurl over the table's legs towards the user; when not required, they fold away decoratively beneath the glass.

In the words of its designer, the Girandola is medium-size but, when required, it can be opened out, gently and gracefully unfolding its wings to spare us the need for ungainly displays of  gymnastics.
