The day has 24 hours, but clock faces usually have no more than 12 numbers. This is if they are not of modern design, in which case they may have only 4, or 2, or 1, or none; simply a dot.

Beautiful clocks still exist in old railway stations, with a conventional outer crown -with the numbers 1 to 12- and a circumscribed one -with the numbers 13 to 24-.

But time does not jump, it is continuous and infinite, like a spiral, like the shell of a Nautilus sectioned by its plane of symmetry...
